Lamlash House and Dean Castle Spotlight in Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland's Spring Edition

Lamlash House is proudly featured in the spring edition of the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland's magazine, highlighting its architectural and historical significance. The article reflects on the society’s East Ayrshire Highlights study visit last year, during which members explored several key heritage sites. On the same day, the group also visited the magnificent Dean Castle in Kilmarnock, a historic stronghold of the Boyd family with over 400 years of history.

Lamlash House, a sympathetically restored Category B listed Victorian property built in 1890 originally as a bank and manager’s house, stands out for its striking red sandstone architecture and five exquisite Stephen Adam stained glass windows. The visit included an illustrated talk and afternoon tea, showcasing the house’s rich history and its connection to Newmilns’ lace-making heritage.

Dean Castle, part of Dean Castle Country Park, offers visitors a journey through Scotland’s medieval and local history, with displays of arms, armour, and an internationally significant collection of medieval musical instruments. The castle and park remain a top free visitor attraction in Ayrshire, combining historical depth with scenic beauty.

This feature in the AHSS magazine celebrates the architectural heritage and cultural stories of East Ayrshire, inviting readers to discover these remarkable sites for themselves.
