Restoration Update

Following our previous update on the essential repair and restoration works at Lamlash House after the severe impact of Storm Eowyn, we want to share the latest developments regarding progress—and the challenges we continue to face.

Longer-than-Expected Roofing Works

As many will be aware, our first priority has been making Lamlash House wind and water-tight by repairing the storm-damaged roof. Despite the efforts of our roofing contractor, the scope and complexity of the damage have required more time than originally anticipated. Weather delays, sourcing historically appropriate materials, and intricate leadwork repairs have extended the roofing phase well into the summer.

Addressing Internal Damage

Unfortunately, prolonged water ingress during the winter months caused damage to the interior of the house, most notably in the tower section. One internal wall, severely compromised by water ingress has now been carefully dismantled. We are pleased to share that reinstatement of this wall has recently begun—marking a key milestone in our internal restoration programme.

In the coming months, further work will take place to carry out plaster repairs, restore decorative finishes, and redecorate affected areas throughout the building. All of this is being done with great care to preserve the historic character of our Grade B listed home.

Impact on Events at Lamlash House

While we remain committed to welcoming guests back in full in due course, we must be realistic about our short-term capacity. To allow Johnathan and Gordon to continue their careful restoration efforts—and to ensure the safety and comfort of everyone on site—both public and private events will remain limited over the coming months.

This decision has not been taken lightly, but it is essential to allow progress to continue without interruption and to protect the long-term future of Lamlash House.
